What to expect
To ensure your home visit is as smooth and effective as possible, please take a moment to review these frequently asked questions.
What happens during my first appointment?
If you have not already completed our online medical history and consent forms, we will complete them together during the first appointment. It would be very helpful to prepare in advance a list of your current medications and details of any relevant medical history. This is to help us understand your general health and any medications you are taking, as these can impact your foot health.
We will then conduct a thorough foot assessment to identify any existing problems. We'll discuss your concerns, explain any conditions found, and formulate a personalised treatment plan. Most routine treatments can often be carried out during this first visit. The appointment usually lasts around one hour, and subsequent appointments usually last around 30 minutes.
Do I need to provide anything?
If you have specific concerns about your footwear, you could have to hand the shoes you wear most often for us to assess. Also, details of any changes in medication would be very helpful.
How much space do you need?
We appreciate it if you can clear a small, well-lit area where we can set up our equipment. Ideally, this would be enough space for a chair for you, a chair for me, and my portable footrest/instruments. A living room or dining room is often ideal.
Should I wash my feet before the appointment?
Yes, if at all possible, please ensure your feet are clean and free from any creams or lotions before our arrival. A gentle wash with soap and water is perfect. This helps us get a clear view of your feet and ensures optimal hygiene.
Do I need to remove nail polish?
Ideally, yes. Removing nail polish allows us to thoroughly assess the condition of your nails and the nail bed, which is crucial for a comprehensive examination and treatment. Assistance for those who need it can be provided.
What should I wear for the appointment?
Please wear comfortable clothing that allows easy access to your feet and lower legs. Loose-fitting trousers or shorts are usually best.
What if I have a pet?
We love animals, but for the safety and concentration of both you and your practitioner, we kindly request that pets be secured in another room during the appointment. This helps us maintain a sterile environment and ensures an undisturbed treatment.
Is there anything I need to tell you before you arrive?
If you have any specific concerns beyond routine nail care, that you'd like to address during the appointment, letting us know beforehand can help us prepare.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule my appointment?
We understand that unforeseen circumstances can arise. Please notify us as soon as possible, preferably at least 48 hours in advance, if you need to cancel or reschedule. This allows us to offer the slot to another patient. Our cancellation policy can be found here.
Will you need access to plug sockets or water?
We may need access to a nearby plug socket for some of our equipment. Access to a basin or sink for handwashing is also appreciated but not strictly essential as we carry hand sanitiser.
What should I do after the appointment?
Your practitioner will provide you with specific aftercare advice relevant to your treatment. This may include recommendations for footwear, creams, or exercises. Please follow these instructions carefully for the best results.

General Questions
What is a Foot Health Practitioner (FHP)?
A Foot Health Practitioner is a skilled professional trained to assess, diagnose, and treat common foot conditions. We focus on maintaining the healthy state of your feet and preventing problems that can impact your overall well-being and mobility. For more information, click here.
What's the difference between a Foot Health Practitioner, a Chiropodist, and a Podiatrist?
The terms "Chiropodist" and "Podiatrist" are now largely interchangeable and are protected titles, requiring a university degree and registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). Foot Health Practitioners (FHPs) are trained to a high diploma level (like my qualification from the SMAE Institute, the only university-accredited FHP diploma in the UK) and specialise in routine foot care and the treatment of common foot ailments. FHPs provide essential services like nail care, corn and callus removal, and verruca treatments. For more complex conditions, surgical procedures, or in-depth biomechanical issues, an FHP will refer you to a Podiatrist.
Do I need a referral from my GP to see you?
No, you do not need a referral from your GP to book an appointment with a Foot Health Practitioner. You can contact us directly.
Do you treat patients with diabetes or those on blood thinners?
Yes, absolutely. I am trained and insured to provide safe and effective foot care for patients with diabetes and those on blood-thinning medication. A thorough medical history will always be taken to ensure your care is tailored to your specific needs.
How often should I have my feet checked?
For general foot health maintenance, we typically recommend a visit every 6-8 weeks. However, this can vary depending on your individual foot health needs and any specific conditions you may have. We will discuss a personalised care plan with you during your initial appointment.
